2026 National Convention
Louisville, Kentucky
August 28 – September 3, 2026

The annual National Convention is the governing body of The American Legion. Each of the Legion’s 55 departments – the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Latin America and the Philippines – is entitled to a minimum of five voting delegates to the convention. A department is granted one additional delegate for each 1,000 members (or major fraction thereof) 30 days before the convention.

How to Attend

Delegates and Alternates for the Department of Iowa are selected at the Spring District Conferences and ratified at the annual Department Convention. Those not elected as a Delegate or Alternate may attend the National Convention as a Guest. If the Districts do not fill their delegations, Alternates and Guests from other districts will be moved to Delegate positions.

Registration for Delegates, Alternates, and Guests to the National Convention is $35. Registration forms are available at district conferences or can be downloaded below.

All room reservations should be made through The American Legion, Department of Iowa, using Form 1.
